Microsoft 365 New Security Defaults Affect Users

Starting this week, Microsoft has enabled security defaults to adopt best practices such as requiring multi-factor authentication (MFA) and disabling insecure protocols. If you are already using Okta, AuthPoint, or Microsoft Authenticator you should be able to authenticate without any issues. If you do not currently use multi-factor authentication to access Office 365, this new default will impact you.

As a security best practice, we recommend that all organizations implement a robust and advanced MFA solution. Multi-factor authentication requires more than one factor or piece of information to log in to devices or accounts adding an extra layer of security. The three most common factors include something you know (a password), something you are (a fingerprint/face scan), and something you have (a code on your phone).  As security continues to evolve, MFA is now a requirement to qualify for cyber insurance.

Element can work with you to implement a recommended MFA platform that goes beyond Microsoft Authenticator. Please feel free to communicate with us so we can proactively attempt to minimize disruptions that may result from these new security defaults.

Now is the time to align your organization with security best practices.
